I wrote this fic after listen to the song “Rhythm of the Rain”.”Rhythm of the Rain” is a song performed by The Cascades, released in November 1962. It was written by Cascades band member John Claude Gummoe. It rose to #3 on the US pop charts in early 1963, and it spent two weeks at #1 on the US “Easy listening” chart. The song was also a Top 5 hit in the United Kingdom and a #1 single in Ireland. (according to wikipedia.org)
If you like to listen, here it is:
And here’s the lyrics:
The sky’s so dark or is it just because of me? Because this heavy feeling makes everything around me become leaden…
Why is there a rock in my heart?
Hah, why did I even ask “why”? Of course I know why…Right now, I’m losing the man I love, and there’s nothing I can do…nothing…
I couldn’t tell him not to go away, he has the good reason to run away…I knew that!
I just wish…he turned round to find me …but even if he turned, I’m not the person he wants to see…
All I could do was whisper “Don’t die, Fersen…”
It’s going to rain…
The only man I care about has gone away
Looking for a brand new start
“Oscar, I’m going to run away, I’m sorry, but I must…Thousands of miles away…!”
“Fersen, where will you go?”
Where will you go, Fersen? Is this the best cure? The best cure for you? The best cure for your love? The best cure for your beloved?
Is this the best cure for me? If you aren’t here, perhaps…perhaps I can let you go out of my head, my heart…perhaps…
Rain please tell me how does that seem fair
For him to steal my heart away when he don’t care
I can’t love another when my hearts somewhere far away
No, I can’t, I can never let you go…what can I do?
But little does he know
That when he left that day
Along with him he took my heart
Do you know that, Fersen? Do you know you have my heart right in your hand, or you don’t realize that, you don’t care about that? What’s the thing you care about most?
“Please take care of lady Antoinette!”
That was all you said…how about “take care of yourself”? You just said “thank you” to me, and the next thing you said was “Please take care of lady Antoinette!”. Can you even think of me for once? Just once…
Rain won’t you tell him that I love him so
Please ask the sun to set his heart a glow
Rain in his heart and let the love we knew start to grow
The rain is falling slowly, a small drizzling rain. It was rain that night, the night her Majesty asked me a favor…
“Say ‘yes’, Oscar. Otherwise, I can’t raise my face and see you!”
How could I say “no” after hearing that? How could I say no after seeing her tears?
What’s about my tears?
“Hey Oscar, what’s wrong?”
I heard what he asked.
Everything’s wrong, André! Everything! Their love, their secret dates…and my feeling…everything is wrong…just ignore me, André…I know it’s wrong, and I can control myself really well…
Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Telling me just what a fool I’ve been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again
Your Majesty, have you forgotten your position as a queen, mother of France? While asking someone like me for a favor, you covered your face as if you’re a sinner. I understand your Majesty’s suffering. But your Majesty, you have your position to consider!
How could I say that to her?
What could I say to those who love each other?
“Thank you, Oscar…” He said softly after I told him his beloved couldn’t be able to meet him…
“Thank you,” I hate those words! Don’t thank me! I don’t need that!
“Wait, Oscar! Warm yourself!” He shouted when I ran away in the rain.
Can you warm my heart? No, you can’t, you don’t even know it is cold!
“Stay here until the rain stops!”
When will it stop? When will the rain inside me stop? When, Fersen?
I was wet, my face was wet…Was it the rain, or the tears on my face? I can’t remember…
And I’m getting wet right now because the rain is getting heavier…It rains in torrents.
Rain…what’s rain? Is it the water drops fall from the sky? The rain falls on the lotus leaves, but can never stay…The water drops will run into the lake…I can’t stay in your heart, I don’t know if I ever was in your heart…am I falling into a big wide lake?
“Oscar! What on earth are you doing?”
“You shouldn’t be out in the rain like this!”
Did he also say things like that when he brought the coat to me that night?
“Why are you staring at me? Go inside!”
Why am I staring at you? I don’t know I’m just trying to remember…
Yes, that’s the face I saw in the rain…that’s the one who ran to me in the rain…
“Thank you, André!” I said when I passed him at the door.
He doesn’t look at me, maybe he didn’t hear what I said because it was raining.
Or…maybe he heard?
Oh, listen to the falling rain
Pitter patter, pitter patter
Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling rain
note: If you’ve listened to the song, you would see not The Cascades who sang it. The singer is Trish Thuy Trang. I prefer The Cascades, but because the fic’s about Oscar’s feeling, I think it’ll be better that a female singer sing the song. Trish Thuy Trang, a Vietnamese American singer and songwriter, was born on December 15 in Saigon. Her music is an eclectic sound of Asian pop music mixed with western style music. She writes and produces a majority of her own music and lyrics. She appears on Asia Entertainment videos for the Vietnamese music community (according to wikipedia.org)
